Obituary

Gail Higgins, a beloved daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, was born on April 3, 1956, Baltimore, Maryland, to Elizabeth and Donald Higgins. After the early passing of her mother Gail and her siblings were lovingly raised by their grandmother, Edna "Grannie" Howell.

One of three children, Gail was known for her strength, compassion and unwavering support for those around her. She was a pillar of strength in the lives of many and a guiding light to her family and friends. Gail went by the nickname "Smoove" given by her son.

Gail attended Matthew Henson Elementary, Lemelle Junior High, and later graduated from Walbrook Senior High School, where she was an active member of the track team. Her professional journey began at the Baltimore City Police Academy, and then she pursued a career in banking at the Equitable Trust Bank before she began working at the United Parcel Service. She later joined Verizon company in Baltimore. Her dedication and work ethic earned her the opportunity to relocate with AT&T in Atlanta, Georgia. However, her deep compassion and desire to help others brought her back to Baltimore, where she found her calling at Powell Recovery Center. There she made a lasting impact on countless lives until health challenges forced her to retire.

Gail's generosity and nurturing spirit extended far beyond her family. She was a surrogate mother to many and a loyal friend whose kindness knew no bounds. She took great pride in seeing her family thrive and celebrate their successes as her own. She loved life and radiated joy, with her faith evident in her words of wisdom and persistent optimism. A true people person, Gail also had a deep love for animals. A proud dog owner she was also godmother to two Rottweilers, frequently sending them thoughtful gifts.

Gail enjoyed shopping, good food, movies and gospel music. She was an exceptional cook and baker known especially for her famous rice pudding - a treasured recipe passed down from "Grannie." Passionate about holistic wellness, she often turned to herbal remedies and was known to find a natural cure for any ailment.

As her health declined, Gail expressed her wish to be surrounded by loved ones. She received loving care from family members Sherece Waters and Tyshekia Phillips until her peaceful passing. Through her physical presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, strength, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Gail leaves to cherish her memory: her sisters Gwendolyn and Gina; her son Cornel Johnson, her niece Annae Lee, whom she lovingly raised; her goddaughter, Reign a brotherly bond with ronald Howell; and a host of additional family members and friends.
