Garrett Jackson Phillips, son of the late Preston and Bertha Phillips, was born on November 24, 1937 in baltimore, Maryland. Garrett, better known as Gary, departed this life on Thursday, February 17, 2011. Gary was united in Holy Matrimony to Jacqueline Smithwick on July 23, 1960. Gary had four children;Arnita, Gary, Terran and Karl. Gary attended and was baptized at Providence Baptist church, under the leadership of Rev. Marcus J. Woods. Gary was the seventh oldest child out of fifteen. All preceded him in death except one sister, Glenda McClam of Baltimore, Maryland. Gary graduated from Frederick Douglas High School and worked numerous jobs; Read's Drug Store, Hutler's Department Store, Rice's Bakery and John Hopkins Hospital in Sterilization Department from 1971 untill 1999, where he received several medals and certificates. After retirement, he worked at Harbor Hospital in the Dietary Department for approximately seven years. Gary truly enjoyed music, hand dancing and watching sports especially football and baseball. Gary fought a good fight with pride and dignity...He very rarely complained. Gary's battle was not his, it was the Lord's. He leaves to celebrate his memory; his wife Jacqueline Phillips; two daughters, Arnita Owens and Terran Phillips; two sons, Gary Phillips Bernice and Karl Pillips Felicia; nine grandchildren, Gary Mason deceased, Shannon Owens, Michael Biggfers, Cierra Phillips, Gary Phillips, Jr., Kendall Phillips, Destiny Phillips, Lana Phillips and Isaiah Phillips; three great-grandchildren, Lanier Dent, Lorrien Dent and Malik Phillips; one sister, Glenda McClam; and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, two daughter-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and two dear friends, Steve Allen and James Pryear.
