IN LOVING MEMORY OF
General Grant
Woodard
October 13, 1932 – January 27, 2019
GENERAL GRANT WOODARD
,
was born to the late Ellec
and Betsy Woodard on October 13, 1932 in Wilson, NC. He departed this
life on January 27,2019, after a lengthy illness.
"Poppo", as he was affectionately known by family and friends, relocated
to Baltimore in 1957. During his work career, he worked at a variety of jobs
before landing his dream position as a painter for Baltimore Air Coil, in
Laurel, MD. He retired in 1990 after 18 years of faithful service.
Grant loved to bowl and belonged to several leagues. After retiring, he
enjoyed laughing, joking and spending time with his friends at the Westside
Shopping Center. He was also an avid fan of westerns and would never grow
tired of watching vintage television shows like the Virginian, Gunsmoke
and Bonanza.
Grant was a man of few words but everyone who knew him, understood that
he said what he meant and he meant what he said. He was a hard worker and
taught by setting an example for others.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Harkness Woodard; one
granddaughter, Virginia, one great-granddaughter Britney, and two
grandsons, Robert and Kibwe. He leaves to cherish his memory; six
daughters, Clarice, Hermetta, Anita, Geneva, JoAnn and Bobbie; thirteen
grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, one
son-in-law, one grand daughter-in-law, two grand son-in-laws and his
childhood friend, Mr. June McCoy.
