Obituary

Geneva Mayvell Johnson, the oldest daughter of the late Sonny and Maybell Ford was born on Friday, October 27, 1939 in Baltimore, Md. She departed this life on Monday, October 13, 2025. Her younger brother Wendell Ford preceded her in death in 2005.

Geneva received her education in the Baltimore city public school system and graduated from the historical Frederick Douglas high school, located on Gwynns Falls Parkway in 1957. It was there that she met Henry "aka Duke" Johnson; who swept her off her feet. In 1959 she would become the proud mother of her 1 and only son Todd Brian Johnson. Mama Geneva stated she only had 1 child because Todd was like 15 children all by himself!

After high school Geneva worked several years as a nurse's aid at Baltimore City Hospital. In her late 20's she began working as a teacher's aid for the Baltimore city school system, until she retired after 30+ years.

After retirement she enjoyed traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, shopping and helping people. One of her fondest experiences was flying for the very first time to visit her grandson Paul and her great grandchildren in San Diego, California in 2016. After enduring this 6 hour non-stop flight, mama said " it wasn't that bad" and went back again in 2017 and 2018.

On mother's day of 2005 under the leadership of the late Pastor T.. Tyrone Green, of The River at Revival Mission on 43rd street in Baltimore, Geneva gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ and never turned back. In 2007 The River joined with Victory Ministries International (now Victorious Ministries International), and under the leadership of Pastor Tony Smith, she became an ordained Deaconess and served faithfully wherever she was needed until her health began declining. Even then she was still a shining and burning light to all she encountered. Geneva became known to some as hot cakes, lovely lady, the little lady, granny and mama Geneva; but most importantly she was called a faithful woman of God, and friend to all who knew her. Mama Geneva loved everyone and everyone loved her.

She leaves to mourn 1 sister-Christine Thompson, her only son Todd Johnson (daughter in-law Gena), 6 grandchildren- Elisha Johnson, Paul Johnson(Tommeka), Christopher Johnson, Markia Felder, Demauria Felder, Mitzi Quash (Ramon), 2 God daughters Towanda Carter and Kayla Williams, 16 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her church family.
