IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Calvin
Fitzgerald Jr.
May 29, 1954 – April 29, 2024
GEORGE CALVIN FITZGERALD, JR. was born on May 29, 1954, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the son of George Calvin Fitzgerald, Sr. and Doretha R. Fitzgerald. He was the second of seven siblings.
On April 29, 2024, God saw that the time for his rest was needed.
George, fondly called "FITZ" was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. He graduated from Forest Park Senior High School and was on the Track and Field team where he excelled in hurdles.
He attended John Wesley United Methodist Church with his family where he accepted Christ at a young age. He loved the Lord! As a Junior Usher, he served as President along with his siblings. On many Sundays, the ushers went to churches to celebrate Usher Anniversaries around Baltimore City. He enjoyed leading the Junior ushers in the Anniversary march.
He was married to Belinda Green, who preceded him in death.
George worked several jobs while in school: caddie at the golf course and a prep-chef. You could always count on George having a job!
He started working at Sears as an auto mechanic following behind his dad. Later, he was employed by Amtrak Railroad as a Trackman. He worked at Amtrak until he retired. He had a garage where he became self-employed at JFJ Auto Shop with his buddies, Eric Johnson, and Harold Johnson.
The proudest moment for him was the birth of his son, DeLacy. The next proudest moment was becoming a granddad to Jordyn.
George loved to cook and enjoyed eating, too! You would never think that because he never gained weight. He would send texts of pictures to his siblings of meals that he prepared. He made a fantastic 7-Up cake from scratch with the recipe from his mother. Also, he was an excellent housekeeper. He loved sports! His favorite football team was the New York Giants (after the Baltimore Colts left). He loved the Baltimore Ravens, too! He had a hobby of racing cars and building engines. He was an excellent handyman for his family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who needed him. His father was known as "Mr. Fix It" and he was just like him, "Mr. Fix It, Junior". He took up Chess and became "really good" at playing and teaching family and friends how to play. Additionally, George was known for his humor!
He moved to Paris, Pennsylvania for the freedom of the rural environment and open space for his dogs. He especially loved his dog "Toby". He had several friends who were like his "second" family.
Finally, George had the biggest heart and would do anything to help someone!!! Preceding him in death, father, George C. Fitzgerald, Sr., brother, Michael A.
Fitzgerald.
George, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: his loving mother, Doretha; one son, DeLacy Fitzgerald-Smith; granddaughter, Jordyn Smith; five siblings, Denise V. Fitzgerald, Renee J. Bright (James), Terrye M. Shields (Cortland, Sr.), David C. Fitzgerald (Michelle), Charles E. Fitzgerald; nephews, Cortland A. Shields Jr., Michael T. Hall, Aaron R. Fitzgerald, David Christopher Fitzgerald; nieces, Natosha Willis, Comae Shields, Charnae Fitzgerald; great-nephews, Cortland A. Shields III, Ryder B. Hall; great-niece, Troi M. Jolley; stepdaughter, Demetrice Green; "Bonus" children, Sharonda Franklin and Tyrone Perry; and a host of other relatives and friends too many to name.
