Lashley
August 1, 1932 – December 9, 2018
George Amos Lashley son of the late Guy and Florida Lashley
was born August 1, 1932, in Brunswick County, Va. He fell
asleep in death on December 9, 2018. Family and friends called
him by his middle name Amos, but most of his golf and
hometown friends called him Chicken
George. His kids and grandkids called him Pops and Pop-pop.
Amos grew up and went to school in Brunswick County, Virginia,
until he moved to Maryland with his brother. He worked as a
construction worker for many years, he retired in 1992. But he
continued to work as a mechanic up until recently when he became
ill. Pops was a Jack of All Trades and a Master of most. Chicken
George love golf, a sport he master in his early 40s.
He won many trophies, plaques and Citations. Also, he was
featured in the Afro and Sun news papers for winning tournaments
at Clifton Park and Carroll Park Golf Courses. He played with some
of the best in Maryland and loved to bet on the games. He said
he build his game putting around on parking lots waiting for his
wife as she Shopped. He loved music from the 40s and 50s and
playing his guitar. He was quiet man who loved joking and
talking trash with family and friends over a cold beer.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Carrie, three sons
Edward Ingram, George Allen and Kevin Lashley, one grandson
Antonio Rakim Lashley, one granddaughter Raquel Leak and two
brothers William and Linwood Lashley.
Pops leaves to cherish his memories; two daughters Geraldine
Lashley and Mollie (Barbara) Leak, one daughter in law Donna
Lashley, three sons Barry and Antonio Lashley and James Leak, Jr.,
one brother Melvin Lashley, one brother in law James Wesley
Ingram, three sister in law Ruth Lashley, Myrtle Williams and
Purdies Harris, Thirty-three Grandchildren, Fifty-one Great
Grandchildren and Twelve Great-Great Grandchildren, two first
cousins Etha Johnson and Rufus Noble, a host of nieces and
nephews who was like his own. Also, two special friends Todd
Evans who was like a son and Shamiah (Penny) Nicholas who
was like a daughter to him. As well as a host of friends he
was very close to from Mckenney, especially his neighbors
the Tuckers.
