Obituary

George Bernard Laury, son of the late Preston Henderson and the late Margaret Jean Lipscomb Fritz, was born on May 9, 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on tuesday, October 5, 2010 after a brief illness. "Brownie", as he was affectionately known in the public schools of Baltimore. He began a career as an ""over-the-road' tractor trailer operator at the very young age of sixteen. Brownie enjoyed trucking more than anything. He savored the experience of seeing how beautiful this country is while performing the very meaningful task of delivering freight to destinations east and west, north and south. He performned his job with zeal and determination and it was always his goal to meet whatever delivery deadliine he was given and he alway did! Brownie also had a passion for gadgets! If it came on the market, he bought it. He married the late Jessie Monroe. There were no children born of this union. Brownie made many friends as he traveled across the country and was revered by his family and friends at home. He was a blessing to his family and a true friend to many. He was especially close to his cousins, Wayne and Melvin. He will be deeply missed. Preceding him in death are two sisters, Jean and Maryann, two brothers, Paul and Guy. He leaves to mourn; six sisters, Loleta Brown of Baltimore, Md., Stephanie Ford of High Point, NC, Sharon Pennick of Roanoke, Va., Jodie Bell of Radford, Va., Charlene Scott of Salem, Va., and Bernice Williams of Douglasville, Ga., stepmother, Doras Henderson of Lexington, Va., and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and long-time friend and companion, Carolyn Footman.
