GEORGE W. PRETLOW JR., the loving devoted son of the late George and Fannie Pretlow, was born on June 2,1929 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was called from this life to his eternal resting place after a lengthy illness on May 6, 2014. George was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System where he excelled in the sport of basketball at Frederick Douglas High School. He furthered his skills by playing with local leagues and became an all-star athlete. He transferred his skills to community services through local recreation centers and the Boy Shield clubs. He was a coach and mentor to many youths across Baltimore City. His favorite achievement was his leadership role with "Operation Champ". In September of 1947, he joined into marriage with the love of his life, Emma Catherine Wilson. From this union of65 years, they were blessed with eight precious children. He liberally bestowed these qualities upon his extended family and friends. He was employed by the International Garment Worker's Union as a skilled precision cutter for major retail stores in the tri-state area. He and his wife accepted Christ and were baptized at Concord Baptist Church early in their marriage. They later joined The Central Baptist Church by way of invitation from the late, Rev. Northern Long. At Central, he immediately went to work ministering as a recreational coordinator, a member of the Central Baptist Bowling League, a Boy Scout Master, President of the Male Chorus and President of the Brotherhood. He later served as a trustee, until his illness. George impacted the lives of many and left a legacy to be cherished. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Norman.
