George Herbert Roane, son the late Henry and Sue Roane, was born on November 10, 1920 in Lynchburg, Virginia. He departed this life on Sunday, November 27, 2005 due to a lengthy illness. He was raised in Baltimore, Maryland by his aunt, the late Elizabeth Goldsmith. He joined the Navy in 1942 where he met the late Clara Mae Brackens. Clara and George were united in holy matrimony in San Diego, California on August 25, 1946. They fostered two children, Joey Betts and the late Maurice Young. George was employed at Esskay Quality Meats for over twenty years until his retirement in 1982. He leaves to mourn: one son: Joey Betts, one sister-in-law, Cora Roane, one brother-in-law, Earl Ford, Sr., five nieces, Valerie Chandler, Star Brooks, Renee Trawick James, Yvette Harris and Deborah Nelson Joey; seven nephews, John Glenn Brooks Patricia, Gil Brooks, Earl Ford, Jr., Wanda, Gary Ford Cynthia, Michael Ford, Hilliard Roane Gloria, and Jeffrey Roane Sophia; five great nieces and six great nephews; Robert Meadows, Jr., a close friends, cousin and riding partner; a former wife, Gloria Myers and a host of other relatives and friends. With a special thanks to a devoted great niece, Wanda Hopkins, for all of her ongoing love and support during Uncle George's illness.
