IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Alfred
Tanner
June 16, 1933 – May 7, 2022
George Alfred Tanner, the first born of the late James Edward and
Lucille Tanner, departed this life on May 7, 2022, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on June 16, 1933, the first of nine children to this union.
George Alfred, was affectionately known as Gink to his childhood friends.
He gave his life to Christ at an carly age at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church
in Wadesboro, N.C. He attended Anson County Training School. After
training school, he worked for Rivers Feed and Seed Store as a truck
driver. He then relocated to Greensboro, N,C, with his uncle Fred,
where he worked for a Roofing company. After a serious burn injury, he
returned home to Wadesboro. A short time later, in 1951, he joined the
U.S. Army where he proudly served his country until he was honorably
discharged a few years later.
After departing the army, he moved to Baltimore, MD in 1955 and met
the love of his life, Betty McCullough. They were married in 1958 and
three daughters were birthed from this union, Iszella, Paula, and Sharon.
In the early 1990's, George and Betty joined Grace Memorial Baptist
Church in Baltimore, MD. They remained faithlel to that church and
were married for 61 years, before Betty's union ty departure in 2019.
George was a great provider and held many jobs over the years to afford
a good life for his family. These included Koonstreumery and Ms.
Filbert's before retiring from the Baltimore Count School System.
Up until the time of his departure, sharp dressing George loved a good
card game with friends and family and watching the horses. George was
"Mr. Fix It' for everything around the house. He was also a good cook.
His specialty was fried fish and beans. This meal always bought the
family together. However, nothing made him more proud than being
"Grandad" to his grandchildren and "Pop Pop" to his great
grandchildren.
Those left to cherish memories are his three loving daughters Iszella,
Paula, and Sharon, a sister, Hattie (Allen) Dunston, brothers Walter.
Jasper (Wanda), and Lorenza (Patricia) Tanner, a sister-in-law Eliza
(Robert) Jennings, grandchildren Tiffany, Brandon, Morgan, Brittany,
and Brian, great grandchildren, Maleah and Malachi, and a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.
