IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerald J.
Fabre, Jr.
November 26, 1958 – June 16, 2019
On November 26, 1958, Gerald Joseph Fabre, Jr. was born in Baltimore,
Maryland to Constance Harcum Fabre and the late Gerald Joseph Fabre, Sr. To
his family, Gerald was affectionately known as 'Bunky' and was the first grand-
son for both his maternal and paternal grandparents. As an infant, Gerald was
christened at Saint Ann's Catholic Church in Baltimore.
Gerald was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, starting in first
grade with his mother as his teacher. He attended Grove Park Elementary School
and made lifelong friends throughout the neighborhood. Gerald graduated from
Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, excelling in math, history and English. He was
also a formidable opponent on the varsity wrestling team and was a member of
the Black History Club. Gerald graduated in June 1976 with a concentration in
Engineering and after high school attended Morgan State University. Shortly
thereafter, he caught the entrepreneurial spirit and held multiple jobs becoming
an independent contract worker.
Gerald was a protector, an anchor for many who knew him and was always there
when you needed him. He would often counsel those close to him to help others
navigate the hurdles of life.
Road trips were a favorite pastime, something Gerald inherited from his father.
He took countless driving trips with his family and friends to enjoy sports events,
sight-seeing, family events, parks and museums throughout the country. He was
also willing to hit the road when needed, driving his mother, grandmother, aunts,
cousins and others. A dedicated brother, father, uncle and cousin, Gerald was the
designated driver when it came to ensuring his daughter, sisters, nieces and
cousins got safely to and from college. Gerald loved shopping and was known
for fmding just the right outfit for special occasions so he could dress the part.
Treasured memories included shopping excursions with his daughter at their
favorite stores. Gerald also enjoyed shopping with his sister when he visited her
family on the west coast.
From a young age, Gerald was an athlete and sports enthusiast. He participated
in multiple sports such as bike riding, football, baseball, basketball, bowling and
wrestling. Whatever sport he took an interest in, he made sure that he knew the
rules inside and out and used them to his advantage so that he could win. Many
considered him to be a sports historian, as he often enlightened others with
little-known details about records, accomplishments and life experiences of
various athletes and teams. In the 1970's, when it was uncommon to travel
out-of-state to playa championship game, Gerald traveled and played on several
championship teams for both Little League baseball and Pop Warner football. As
an adult, Gerald became a coach for his youngest sister's Little League baseball
team and his son's baseball team.
Gerald had a great sense of humor and was fun to be around. He was light-
hearted, quick-witted and had a knack for sarcastic humor. He kept people
laughing by sharing the funnier side of everyday life.
Gerald was a lifelong student, never losing his thirst for knowledge. He stayed
abreast of politics, locally, nationally and internationally. During the 2008
presidential campaign, he volunteered as a polling judge, assisting local residents,
many of whom were casting a vote for the first time. He was an avid reader who
loved to learn, routinely and proudly sharing his knowledge with others.
Gerald's father, Gerald J. Fabre, Sr. preceded him in death. Gerald leaves a
legacy of love which will be cherished by: his son, Gerald Julius Fabre;
