Obituary

GERALD (JERRY) GEORGE HURGE was born on August 8,1924 in Kingston, Jamaica to the late Alberta Samuel and George Hurge. After a brief illness, Jerry departed this life on April 24, 2013. He was the youngest of two brothers and one sister. Jerry was formally educated in Jamaica and worked as an Engineer for several years at the Jamaica Railway Company. Prior to moving to the United States, Jerry married and from this union five children were born. Jerry was introduced to God at an early age. He attended several churches in the Baltimore area before settling into his last church of New Psalmist Baptist Church, where he was an active member until death. In 1967, Jerry migrated to the United States (Baltimore, Maryland) where he began working at Keystone Electrical Company. While at Keystone, Jerry studied and completed a certificated program in Electronics at RETS. Jerry worked there until he retired in 1991. Retirement did not set into long with Jerry for he was always very active and interested in his craft of Electronics. He was employed at Hechinger's, Wal-Mart, and e-z Storage where he worked as a sales associate in the Hardware/Electrical departments and served as Relief Clerk, respectively. In his later years, Jerry enjoyed playing dominos, one of his life-long passions, as well as traveling and watching Boxing and Professional Baseball; Jerry loved the Orioles. Jerry's love for electronics and fixing things never ceased. He often was found fixing things around the house as well going to the homes of others to fix various electrical, plumbing, and carpentry needs. Jerry's affiliations included membership as a Mason in the Grand Lodge of Kingston, Jamaica and as a "Pest" with the Ellicott City Chapter of the Pinochle Bugs. One son, Errol Hurge, preceded Jerry in death. Jerry leaves to mourn one daughter, Elaine Terrelonge, (Baltimore, MD), three sons, George Hurge (Kingston, Jamaica), Anthony Hurge (Orlando, FL), and Ardley Hurge (Queens, NY); eight grandchildren (Denise, Alecia, Ingrid, Georgenia, Patrick, Troy, Nerine, Goredenna); four great-grandchildren (Silas, Nefeteria, Damion, Troy); and a host of family and friends, including an adopted grandchild, Schuyler Williams.
