Gerald Maurice Stancil (PhD) departed this life early Thursday morning, May 28, 2015, in Baltimore, Maryland after having cancer. He was the youngest child of the late Pastor Oscar and Blanche Stancil. As a young child, Gerald was interested in playing sports and in education. He was very health conscious and his interest varied from philosophy, different types of music, yoga, chess and pinochle. He believed that people are more important than things and that creative people solved problems. At an early age, Gerald accepted Christ and the late Pastor Matthew W. Wilkerson of Zion Baptist Church baptized him. Dr. Stancil was a graduate of the Dunbar High School, of Morgan State (College) University and The Johns Hopkins University in 1976 with a PhD in Physical Chemistry. His dissertation was in the Adsorption and Hydrogen Reduction of Nitric Oxide on Magnesia. He was a teaching assistant at Johns Hopkins. Gerald studied at the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware and st. Joseph College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Stancil was employed as a Chemical Officer in the U.S. Army, Fort Bragg, N.C., a Chemist for E.1. DuPont & Co., Gibbstown, N.J., Senior Chemist, Sun Oil, Marcus Hook, Pa., Senior Research Chemist, Celanese Research Co., Summit, N.J. He directed a team in manufacturing and plant installation of new catalyst. He designed and developed a multimetal oxide catalyst for the oxidation of propylene. He was also an Adjunct Chemical Professor, Union County College, Cranford, N. J., Founder and President of Dynamic Achievements, East Orange, N.J., Physics Teacher, Orange, N.J., The Superintendent of Schools in Orange County commended Dr. Stancil for his teaching and hisinfluence upon his students. The Orange County newspaper also cited him. The Mayor of East Orange selected Dr. Stancil to chair a citywide steering committee to develop plans for the improvement of communities. After retiring, Dr. Stancil returned to Baltimore. For thirty years, Dr. Stancil was a member of the Rosicrucian Order. Dr. Stancil's death was preceeded by his late siblings, Oscar [r., Theresa E. Bailey (Oakley), Bishop Edward W. Stancil (Ann), Evangelist Majorie Grice (Eddie), Pearl Woingust (Eddie), Delores Stith (Gordon), Clifton (Linda), Bernard and Frank. Gerald's memory will be forever cherished by: his sisters - the Reverends Geraldine S. James and Shirley Carrington, his former wife, Della Milling, stepchildren, Tony Bruce, Cheryl Bruce, Anjre Milling and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorial Service Joseph H.
