Obituary

affectionately known as "Gigi," was born on July 25, 1943, to the late Jack and Susie Jones She was the only child born to her loving parents. On Saturday, March 15, 2025, the Lord looked down and said to his beloved daughter, "Glenn, well done!" and called her to her final heavenly travel destination for eternal rest.
Glenn grew up in a loving, supportive and Christian home in Baltimore, Maryland. She received her Christian foundation at Macedonia United Methodist Church in Odenton, Maryland. Despite being the only cousins that treated her the a sister Her family home and surroundings were filled with love and support. Not only was the home filled with love, it was also filled with the wonderful aromas of food, as her father Jack was a chef. With her father's culinary knowledge and her mother's joy of cooking, Glenn also developed a love of cooking. She was best known for her potato salad, soups, and cakes. It is her mother's pound cake recipe that Glenn passed on to her daughter.
Glenn received her education in the Baltimore City School District. She was a proud graduate of Fredrick Douglas High, class of 1961. That was where she fell in love with traveling and participating on the school's majorette team. Glenn also enjoyed roller skating. Following her graduation, Glenn attended Cortez Peters Business School and received her certification in business and finance. She went on to work for the Federal Government in the field of budgeting and finance for close to thirty years.

It was at the roller skating rink where she met and fell in love with the late Roy Lee Dempsey. The two were united into holy matrimony on December 28, 1963. They were blessed with only one child, Kamala Dempsey. Glenn's love for travel was her inspiration for seeking employment with the Department of Defense in Zweibrucken, Germany in Germany she was able to be  be with her beloved cousins, "Bubby" and Phyllis Long. This allowed her to give her daughter, Kamala, an opportunity to experience other countries and cultures.

Glenn loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them at parties, cookouts or simple gatherings. It was not a gathering if Glenn was not present! The apple of her eye was her great-granddaughter.
Zariah, aka "Gigis Girl.' She was the first to introduce Zariah to chocolate wilk and Loana Dune cookies. To this day, Zariah loves her chocolate milk. To the Shorters and Conways, Glenn was not only a matriarch, but also a family historian. if you needed to know more about family history, you just had to ask Glenn. To outside friends and associates, she was known as the hat lady. Glenn toas known to wear a mean that on all occasions. It did not matter whether the temperature was hot or cold, Glenn was always in a hat, even when she was fresh out of the beauty salon! To her daughter and granddaughter. Glenn tas an information hub. She was always aware of resources to assist with childcare, finances, and when the classic holiday movies were on television. To Carl, Glenn was like a second mother and he valued their mother-in-law and son-in-law relationship. Glenn loved Carl as if he was her own son.

Glenn was a fighter. She was a warrior, not a survivor of breast cancer for 27 years. She always stressed others to keep up with their health.
Even until the day of her stroke in March of 2024, Glenn was driving and responsible for taking her sister-cousin, Phyllis, to health.

Glenn leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Kamala D. Stevenson (Carl granddaughter, Taylor J. Stevenson; great-granddaughter, Zariah A. Briggs her 'first' daughter, Reaver I. Long; her beloved cousin-sister, Phyllis Long: sisters. Barbara Christian and Marilyn Carter; her brother-cousin, Timothy Carroll; and a host of cousins and friends. Glenn was loved by marty and will be greatly missed.
