Gloria Martha Davis born June 12, 1920 to the late Benjamin H. and Grace G. Brown in Churchton, Maryland was one of fourteen children. She attended Churchton Elementary School (later named Lula G. Scott). Gloria belonged to Franklin United Methodist church where she played piano for the Sunday school from 1936 to 1937. In 1937 she graduated from W.H. Bates High School and moved to Baltimore residing with her sister Evelyn. Gloria enrolled in Apex Beauty School in 1938 completing the courses and graduating with honors in just eight months. She worked as a beautician from 1938-1942. In 1942 she was employed at the Social Security Administration. On June 28, 1943 Gloria was happily married for 34 years to the late Joseph W. Davis. Of this union was born a daughter Beverly A. Townes. In 1952 she joined the Macedonia Baptist Church under Rev. Dr. W.L. Clayton. Gloria joined the senior usher board in 1974 and joined the nurses unit in 1975. She remained a faithful member until illness prevented regular attendance in 2009. Gloria furthered her education attending Coppin State College as a straight "A" student in 1958. in 1964 she returned to the work force as a manager at Copland's Beauty Salon. In 1968 Gloria became a member of The Order of The Eastern Star and rose to become Past Matron of Magdalene Chapter #45 named after her youngest sister. February 11 of 1980 Gloria began work for the Justice Department as a clerk for the F.B.I., retiring June 4 of 1984. Family was extremely important to Gloria. Within her 93 amazing years she enjoyed the company of her loving daughter, devoted grandsons and great grandchildren. She is survived by Daughter; Beverly A. Townes, Grandsons; Anthony Townes and Nathan Anderson, Great-grandchildren Lauren Townes and Benjamin Townes, Brother; Guy Leon Brown, Sister; Magdalene Nick, Brother-ln-Law Marshal Nick of Churchton, MD and a host of nieces' nephews and friends.
