GLORIA E. HORTON, the middle child of the late Radcliffe Armstrong and Ailcia Charles-Armstrong, was born on October 8, 1927 In New York, NY. After a brief illness, she departed this life. on Sunday, August 17,2014. Her brother, Warren, and sister, Violet, both preceded her In death. When Gloria was a very young age, her mother relocated back to her homeland, Frederlksted, st. Croix, lnthe US Virgin Islands. She thrived In her new environment and Island roots and years later, graduated from Chrlstiansted High School, where she studied home nursing. She went on to work as a student nurse at Frederlksted Municipal Hospital while earning her teaching license. In the early 19505, she moved to New York and, In 1954, she became a pediatric nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital In New York City. For the next two years, she continued to study nursing, and In 1956, landed a job at Harlem Hospital as a labor and delivery nurse. While commuting to work, Gloria met her husband, Wilson Horton, Sr. (deceased), and from this union two children were born, Mike and Kathy. One of the highlights of her 38 year career was the pleasure of assisting with the delivery of her first grandchild, Daniel, In 1991. After giving over 35 years of dedicated service, she retired from Harlem Hospital In 1994. Recently retired and widowed, she decided to relocate to Baltimore, Maryland In 1997. Gloria was a very kind person with a gentle spirit and huge heart. Her door was always open and she treated her guests Ilke family. Her kitchen was no exception, as she routinely offered her guests something to eat or drink. She was known for cooking fried fish and potatoes, and plantains, every Friday ... even when It wasn't Lentl Typically a quite person, Gloria enjoyed reading, attending church, league bowling and spending quality time with family. Nana, as she was affectionately known, leaves to mourn: two children, Michael Horton and Katherine Grayson; six stepchildren, Wilson Horton, Jr., Sandra Oglesby, Cecilia I. Horton, Patricia Teel, Walter Horton, and Bridget Richardson (two stepchildren preceded her In death, Valerie Jones and Ernest Tarter); one niece, Ingrid Bough; one son-in-law, Daniel Grayson, Jr.; nineteen grandchildren, Daniel III, Jovan, Bernice (Munchle), Tracie, Stephanie, Yvonne (Peaches), Charles (Big Chuck), Cecilia (Ron!), Festus III, Steven (Stevie), Patrice (Trice), Deldre (Dee Dee), Keisha, Kevin, Krlstle, Krystal, Bernard (Bernie), Eric, Carita, and a host of other family and friends.
