Obituary

Gordon Wiggs, s on of th e late M cKinl ey and S anor a W iggs, aft er a lengthy battle with cancer , d e part e d thi s life on October 3,2015 at Veteran s Hospital in Baltimore , Maryland . Go r don affectionately kn o wn a s "Red" was born on February 17, 1931 in Rocky Mt., North Carolina. God in His mighty wisdom thought it time to call His child home to a place where death , pain or sorrow can't abide only eternal life , joy , peace and love. Educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, Gordon graduated from Frederick Douglass High School . He then gained employment at the Coca Cola Company in Baltimore, Maryland. After working s eve r al years for Coca Cola, in 1951 he de c ided to join the United States Marine Corp. While in the Marines he earned the rank of s e rgeant and rec e ived a honorable discharge in 1954 . On May 7, 1959, Gordon married the late Edith Green, out of this union thre e children were born, Gordon , Michael and Denis e, and a s tep-son Char l es Jr. Gordon's son Sherman also gained three step-brothers and a step - sister . Gordon loved and caredfor his grand c hildr e n Shelb y and Jamie , he took great pride in letting p e ople know th ey we re hi s girl s . "Red" as he was known , was a real handy and repairman, he helped famil y and friends whenever he could. Gordon was a hard work e r and t o ok his job seriously. H e was e mployed b y th e Abacu s Co r poration, and th e Rouse Company (Harbor Place) . On Januar y 10, 2001, h e was hired by the Hall Methodist Church of Glen Burnie, Maryland , a s c ustodian . H e held this position until 2014, when his h e alth b e gan t o fail and he found it n ec essar y to r e sign. He lov e d and respe c ted Pa s tor Allen a nd her con g re g ation. He often talk e d about how loving and thoughtful e v e r yo n e wa s. Gordon really appreciat e d th e memb e rs who c ame to s ee him whil e he wa s in the hospital . It m e ant s o mu c h to know th ey c ared and were prayin g for him. He enjo ye d. c leaning the Church making it beautiful and s m e lling g o od. He al w a y s made sure ev e rything was done with pride and in ex c e ll e n c e. H e leaves to mourn: a loving daught e r , D e ni s e ; four s on s, S h e rman , Gordon , Micha e l and Charl e s Jr. ; s i x grand c hildr e n , Shelb y , Jami e, Nghanghia , Charle s IV , Keith and Kenneth ; eight gre a t gr and c hildren; a d e voted sist e r , Rub y R o bin s on ; sist e r-in - la w , Ali c e Wi g g s ; br o th er -in - la w , Thomas Que e n; Spe c ial and C a ring ni ec e , J e an L y n c h a n d a h ost of ni ece s, n e ph ews, o ther r e lativ e s a nd friends.
