Obituary

Sheik Gregory Anthony Sykes-Beyson of the late Ann and Richard Sykes, was born on October 1, 1953 in Baltimore Maryland. Our beloved Sykes-Bey departed this life surrounded by family on September 2,2013 at 1:45pm following a lengthy Illness Sykes-Bey was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. In later years he gained employment with the Baltimore Housing Authority until having a stroke in 2006 leaving him disabled. He enjoyed listening to music, dancing, and being amongst family. Sykes-Bey studied many faiths until he embraced Islam and the Moorish Science Temple pf America, where he studied the principals of love; truth; peace; free'dom and justice. He took on a Moorish American wife. In the late 80's early 90's he became a member of the Temple, traveling through the ranks from member to Resurrector; Sheik; Assistant Grand Sheik and Associate Minister. Sykes-Bey became a humble servant after joining the Temple. He traveled from Baltimore to DC; Philadelphia; Chicago; and New York. Just to name a few. He had the opportunity to visit the last resting place of the prophet Noble Drew Ali, the founder of the Moorish Science Temple. He earned the title "Faithful", and as Sheik he taught throughout his travels trying to convert his family, friends, and anyone that he came in contact with. He was preceded in death by: His mother Ann Sykes, his oldest sister, Ellen Sykes and his middle sister, Renee Hawkins. Sykes-Bey leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, Gregory Sykes-Bey Jr. and Elijah Sykes-Bey; two daughters Dellise McMahan and Donnetta Logan (Douglas); seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren, two brothers, Keenan Sykes (Sylvia), Webster Sykes; one sister Stephanie Sykes (Albert); three close cousins, Cynthia Blount, Sherry Brothers, and Jonathan Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his Moorish family.
