IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harriet T.
Epps
October 17, 1944 – July 6, 2018
Harriet Theresa Kidwell Epps, daughter of the late Earl D. Kidwell Sr.
and Harriet (Hattie) Lewis Barnes Kidwell, was born on October 17, 1944
in Baltimore, Maryland. On Friday, July 6, 2018 Harriet better known
as "Tessi", was called to eternal peace. When she received God's invitation,
she got a glimpse of Heaven and RSVP'd.
Tessi was a graduate of Catonsville Sr. High School. She continued
and completed her education at Coppin State College, with a concentration
in teacher education. She would return to Coppin to complete a Master's
Degree in Special Education Teaching. Tessi would spend her working
career as a teacher for Baltimore City Public Schools. She would touch
many young lives and claim many as her children. During summer break,
she still engulfed herself surround by children at Banneker Recreation
Center in Catonsville as a teacher counselor.
Tessi would marry her high school sweetheart, Lorenzo Epps Sr. in
November of 1965. From this union two children were born, Soja Epps
and Lorenzo Epps Jr.
Raised as a Catholic, Tessi would seek out religious knowledge and
teachings through other affiliations. She would find her church home
with New Psalmist Baptist Church. There she would teach Sunday School
classes and read for morning services. While a resident of Arden Courts,
she would regularly attend classes with Rabbi. If you had the occasion
to visit her during the time in which the Rabbi held class, you were quickly
told to come back later. She was busy and had to go to class. All forms
of religion profoundly held her captivated.
The only other thing to keep her from her usual loquacious self was
meal time, more specifically snacks/sweets. Tessi loved her food and
had a tremendous sweet tooth. Her nephew Les and his wife, Chrissy
could attest to her rather robust appetite. They would have her to their
house for meals. She raved of her nephew's culinary skills licking and
smacking her lips, while singing his praises.
Those who knew Tessi will know of her clothes fetish. Tessi had
enough clothes, shoes, jewelry and handbags to open her own department
store. Her daughter's girlfriends loved to see her latest purchase and join
in on the Saturday mall visits with lunch.
