Obituary

Deacon Harry D. Walker, son of the late Rosee and Rufus Walker, was born June 16,1934 in Faber, VA (Nelson County). He peacefully transitioned on April 11, 2013. Affectionately known to many as Walker, he received his education in Faber, VA He was only allowed to complete the 11th grade because blacks were not allowed to graduate in Faber Co., VA. After moving to Baltimore in 1954 Walker attended the Carver Electronic T.V. and Radio School when it was located near the waterfront, he later became a technician. Walker learned to become an independent trucker, and became a self taught auto mechanic, he could fix anything on any type of car. Walker was also employed for 38 years at the MD Cup Co. where he retired from as a printer supervisor. Before moving to Baltimore, Walker met and married Mildred L. Foster in Faber, VA in 1954, from this union five children was born. He later met and married Glenda Barnes in 1981, from this union was 12 children. Walker joined Oak Crest Community Baptist Church which later became New Antioch Baptist of Randallstown. Walker became an ordained deacon in 1986 and remained a faithful deacon while his work was done. Deacon Walker was a Godfearing man, and took great pleasure in teaching and just holding a conversation about the Lord. He not only read, but you would often find him sitting in the kitchen studying his bible. Walker would never hesitate to encourage or simply give words of wisdom to anyone who would take the time to listen. Walker was also very family orientated and loved to see his family together having fun. Walker was a very strict advocate on respect, he would not tolerate disrespect from any one at any age. Walker was preceded in death by his parents, Rosee and Rufus: one son, Kelvin; one grandson, DeAngelo; his beloved wife of over 30 years Glenda; brother, Rufus Jr. and a close cousin, Cousin Liz. Walker leaves to cherish a legacy of memories, 16 children, 10 sons and 6 daughters, Clementine, Mildred, Larry, Melvin, Sylvester, Donnelle, Jimmy, Delaniuel, Lester, Pastor Adrian, Sencerrae, Teresa, Kirk, Christel, Dwayne and Joyce; 4 sons-in-law, 8 daughters-in-law, 28 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Willie and Pastor Lawrence; 5 sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. One special friend, Shirley Contee and a neighborhood of dedicated friends.
