Hattie was born April 14, 1935 in Baltimore Maryland to the late Edna
and Jerome Washington. She departed this life on Wednesday, May 4,
2022.
Hattie received her education in Baltimore City Public Schools. She was a
housewife and loving mother. Once her fourth child completed high
school, Hattie gained employment with an Advertising Distribution
Company. She later returned to her love of raising children and became a
certified Child Care Provider. Hattie loved to cook and bake, particularly
for family gatherings. She enjoyed watching her favorite television
shows, "The Golden Girls" and "Magnum PI'. Hattie was also a writer.
never published but writing her memoirs was very comforting for her.
She truly enjoyed her music, especially, Gospel and Rhythm and Blues
She was always reading, short novels, short stories, cookbooks, and most
importantly, her Bible. Psalms 23 was her favorite prayer.
Proceeded her in Death: Husband, Morris Better, Two sisters; Maggie
Mack and Henrietta Smith, Two grandsons; Alvin Lee Harris and Marc
Hill I and Marc Hill II., One Aunt, Elizabeth Jackson, Two sons-in-law;
Alvin Harris Sr. and Horace Kees.
She leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters: Linda Harris,
Rosalind Cokley, and Cynthia Kees, and one son, Morris Better Jr.
(Robert); One sister, Irene Maggison; Eleven grandchildren; Bridget
Harris-Agnew, Deanna Bunch, Lenard Kees, Marc Hill, Robert Cokley,
Theresa Cokley, Harry Cokley Jr, Aaliyah Better, Malik Better,
Marquise Better, and Sierra Better; one son-in law, Harry Cokley Sr.:
one grand-daughter-in-law Lymetra Cokley; six great grandchildren,
two grandsons in-laws Antonio Agnew and Sean Bunch, and a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members; Emma Worrell.
Mr. and Mrs. Nowlin, Ms. Ethel Gaithers, and Ms. Lemore Jacobs.
Hattie has a very special bond with her great-granddaughter
Breyuanna Heriot, who later became her caregiver and best friend.
Special Acknowledgement to Gilchrist Hospice Team
Pastor Thomas Youn, Nurse Shaudia, Nurse Assistant Tasia and to the
Social Workers.
