Helen Walker was born on October 29, 1941 to Otho Walker, Sf. and Eadie Walker in Florence, Mississippi. She was one of ten children, Melvin, Son, Meddie J., Tell Mae, Fannie Mae, Eadie Jackson, John L. Walker, Otho Walker Jr. and Delores Walker who preceded her in death. She departed this life on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 after a lengthy illness.

She received her education in Mississippi before moving to Buffalo, New York in 1959. She married Mack Shields and out of that union 4 children, Alfreda, Barbet, Bernard and Mack.

She was employed at Church Home Hospital from 1967 to 1994. Later, she was employed at Union Memorial Hospital until she retired in 2002 within that time in 1993 she married Elijah Best.

She found the Lord early and was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist. She always was willing to help anyone. Her heart was as big as her soul.

She leaves her memories to cherish: husband, Elijah Best; children, Alfreda Tate, Barbet Tripp (Bradford), Bernard Shields (Abrinay), Mack Shields, Joyce Stagg (Ronald), Leamon Best, Linda Best; a host of grand- children and great grandchildren, one sister, Eadie Jackson; two brothers, Otho Walker Jr. and John Walker and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Her special friends Effie Davis and Nina Brown.
