IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen R
Brown
September 22, 1930 – November 13, 2025
Helen Romaina English Brown was born on Sept. 22, 1930, the youngest daughter of Leonard E. and Ozie Ray English and the fourth of six siblings. She was born and raised in South Baltimore, before it was known as Federal Hill. She departed this life on Nov. 13, 2025. Less than two months before her passing, Helen was celebrated on her 95th birthday by a host of family and friends.
Helen received her education in the Baltimore City Public Schools. She graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in June 1948. She was a lifelong member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, having accepted Christ as her personal savior in 1944. She served and worked faithfully on numerous boards and organizations at Ebenezer.
On Sept. 8, 1948, Helen was united in marriage to Bernard Leo Brown. From this union were born Lelia, Iris, Helen and Wayne. Helen was employed for 31 years by the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co., better known as A&P. She was still with the grocery-store chain when it became Super Fresh. After retiring in 1992, she found work as a foster grandparent for nearly 20 years, tending to children in daycare at two area Social Security offices. She was so well loved there that several of the children and their parents kept in contact and even visited her at home after she retired from that job.
She was predeceased by her only son, Wayne K. Brown and also by her five siblings: Emma, Agnes, Ruth, Leonard Jr. and Henry, a devoted son-in-law, Lorenzo C. Hubbard Sr., and a grandson, Gary L. Brittingham Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory three devoted and caring daughters, Lelia B. Hubbard, Iris M. Brown, Helen B. Jones, a son-in-law, Jerome F. Jones, and two adopted daughters, Darice Reed and Debbie Dabney.
Helen was very proud of being part of a five-generation family. She was a grandmother to Keith Brown, Lorenzo Hubbard Jr., Bryan Brittingham, Lamont Hubbard, La'Troy Hubbard, Wayne Brown Jr. and Eric Jones; a great-grandmother to Alicia Brittingham, Alexis Brooks, Brianna Brown, Kayla Cooper, Skye Barber, Briana Hubbard, Dyamond Hubbard, Kayla Hubbard, Naiya Mason Jones, La'Troy Hubbard Jr., Symari Brown, Symya Brown and Mykari Brown); and a great-great grandmother to London Raymond, Drew Adams, and Bryant Cauley-Jenkins.
She loved and is also survived by numerous devoted nieces and nephews and friends.
