Helen Marie Gross, daughter of Charlotte (Lottie) Ayers Wilson and Douglas Wilson, was born on March 14, 1920, in Starr, Maryland. She was the second oldest of 14 children. She was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 3,2014. Helen received her early elementary education in Queen Anne County, Maryland. She completed her high- er education in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where she lived with her devoted Aunt, Mom Pearle. Helen always re- turned to the eastern shore to visit with her brothers and sisters. She eventually followed them to Baltimore, Mary- land, in her teen years. In Baltimore she met and married her husband Earl B. Gross on July 1, 1948. Their marriage lasted 66 years. Helen served in several domestic positions throughout her limited work career. Most of her time was spent as a de- voted wife and homemaker. She was known to have kept an immaculate home. Earl B, as she affectionately called him, departed this life on April 13, 2014. No doubt she yearned and missed him desperately. The Lord has surely reunited them. Helen was the last of the Wilson girls; Viola, Florence, Gladys and Bernice all preceded her in death. She rose to the level of matriarch of the family and took her role very seriously. Nothing got by her. Her remaining brothers (Robert, Vincent (Gene), Reverend Garnet Wilson and George) gave her ultimate respect. The brothers knew that if they did not periodically check-in with her with family updates, she would give them a tongue lashing with strong words. Nieces and Nephews near and far, all knew to follow their lead and not forget her birthday, Mother's Day and Christmas celebrations. They also knew the con- sequences. During her 94 years, there were many memo- rable times of celebration.
