Obituary

Hennie Mae Allen, was born on October 17, 1928 in Cheraw, South Carolina. She was the seventh of ten children born of the late Elijah Tillman and Odessa Parsons Tillman. After a lengthy illness, she departed this life on September 8, 2006. She was educated in Chesterfield County Public Schools and later attended Clemson Methodist Junior College receiving an Associate of Arts Degree. Hennie relocated to Baltimore where she met and married Henry Hoover Allen. Out of that union there children were born; Latate Allen, Henry Clay Allen and Janice H. Allen-Reed. Hennie spent many years as a homemaker. She was also an excellent seamstress, often sewing for her family and friends. Later she spent over twenty years employed by the Baltimore City Public School System. Hennie joined Shiloh Christian Community Church in 1962 under the leadership of Reverend Dr. George W. Baynard. She actively participated in the New Members Hospitality Auxiliary which later became the current Fellowship Club. This ministry brought about lifelong bonds of love and friendship. Hennie was also a Sunday school teacher for the Primary Class for nearly 42 years. She taught her last class July of 2006. Hennie Mae Allen was a very humble, meek, warm-spirited, compassionate and loving person to everyone. Anyone who met her, loved her. Hennie as an excellent cook and hosted the family Christmas dinner for over fifty years. She was famous for her homemade fruit cake, German chocolate cake and christmas sugar cookies. Hennie leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of fifty-four years, Henry Hoover Allen; three grandchildren, Latate Allen, Henry Clay Allen and Janice H. Allen-Reed; three grandchildren, Alyssa April Reed, Brandon Allen and William Reed; two great grandchildren, Devin Smith and Donte Smith; one sister, Laura Jane Byrd; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Holley and Carrie Williams; two brothers-in-law, Arthur L. Byrd and Joseph Holley; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she id preceded in death by six sisters, Enice, Helen, Daisy, Rena, Geneva and gladys; two brothers, John and Samuel; and one granddaughter, Latrese Coleman.
