Obituary

HENRY HOOVER ALLEN, son of the late Henry Clay and Carrie Allen, was born on February 22, 1930 in Merry Hill, North Carolina. He departed this life on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 after a brief illness. Henry was educated in Merry Hill, North Carolina. He moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he met and married the late Hennie Mae Tillman. They were married for fifty-four years. Out of that union three children were born Latate Allen, Henry Clay Allen and Janice H. Allen- Reed. He found employment as a Longshoreman for the Steamship Trade Association. He worked his entire career on the Baltimore waterfront retiring 23 years ago to enjoy fellowship time with family and friends. Henry was a quiet, hard-working person but could readily become the life of the party. He was compassionate, loving and generous to his family and friends. His family looked forward to his daily check-in calls. Everyone who knew him will sincerely miss him. Henry leaves to cherish his memory: three children, Latate Allen, Henry Clay Allen and Janice H. Allen-Reed; three grandchildren, Alyssa April Reed, Brandon Allen and William Reed; two great-grandchildren, Devin Smith and Donte Smith; two great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Carrie Williams and Sarah Holley; one aunt, Theresa McNeil, many nieces and nephews, a dedicated friend and many other relatives and close friends. In addition to his parents, Henry is preceded in death by: two sisters, Mary Ester Roulhac and Pauline Bazemore; two brothers, Charles Allen and John Richard Allen; and granddaughter, Latrese Coleman.
