Henry Talley, son of the late Edward and Hattie B. Talley, was born on December 30, 1921 in Bartow, Georgia. He departed this life on December 6, 2007. Henry's family moved to Wadley, Georgia where he attended public school. He left school to help with the family farm. Although he never received his high school diploma, Henry expressed the importance of education to his children and wanted them to go as far as they could. Henry was an avid reader in his adulthood and read the newspaper from cover to cover daily. Henry joined the United States Army and served in Europe during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, he took up residence in Jacksonville, Florida. There he met and married Lucy Preston. From that union one daughter, Minnie Louise, was born. After a divorce, Henry met and married Gladys Rhines. From that union four children were born, Alexis A., Janice , Duane and Joanne. Henry also gained a stepson, John Hines. Henry worked at the Bethlehem Steel Plant in Baltimore for thirty-three and one half years. he enjoyed spending time with his family and never missed an opportunity to travel to Petersburg and Richmond, VA and New York City, to visit his brother, sisters, uncle, nieces and nephews. His marriage to Gladys ended in divorce. Henry met and married Glenda Grimes in 1982. From this union three children were born, Natalie, Teresa and Glenn. He also gained five stepdaughters. Henry was a faithful member of The Spirit of Chesapeake Lodge #1107, until his health began to fail. Henry held various offices in this organization, but he really enjoyed being on the House Committee. Henry was always known for his flair in dressing. You would never see Henry in a pair of jeans or sneakers. Henry was predeceased by two sons, Duane in 1993 and Alexis Pookie Talley in 1995. He leaves to mourn: his loving wife, Glenda; five daughters, Minnie L. Sanders of Miami Fla., Janice Y. Ford, Joanne Talley Smith, Natalie Smith and Teresa Talley; one son, Glenn; one stepson, Atty. John H. Rhines; five stepdaughters, Debra, Wanda, Lenette, Phyllis and Zorita Grimes; brother, Matthew Talley of Brooklyn, New York; son-in-law, Lawrence L. Smith; daughter -in-law, Royreal Rhines; thirty grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
