Herman Powell, son of the late George and Lillie Jones Powell, was born on August 25, 1940 in Rocky Mountain N.C. He departed this life on April 7, 2011. After graduating from Nashville High he went on to join the Army and served for 21 years. After retiring from the service Herman went to work at NIH, retiring from there after 26 years. Herman was a family man. His grandchildren brought great joy to his life. His favorite hobby was playing cards. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 19 years, Karen Thomas-Powell: tow daughters, Cynthia Powell and Denise Powell; one step-son, Kory Wilkes, a Host of grandchildren: two brothers, Sherman Powell and Joseph Powell; best friend and mother-in-law, Rebecca Butler; father-in-law, Joshua Butler; four sisters-in-law, Robin Williams, /Rosalind Green, Patricia powell and Willa Mae Powell; three brother-in-law, Cephus powell, Mark Williams, and John Williams; and a host of nieces, nepheew and friends. host
