Hilda A.Spears, daughter of the late Joseph Spears and Rebecca Harper Madden, was born on June 29, 1918 in St. Mary's County, MD. She departed this life on June 10, 2008 after a brief illness. Hilda received her education in the public schools of St. Mary's County. Hilda, affectionately known as ''Mama'', dedicated her time to her children and grandchildren. In her later years of her life she gained employment working as a housekeeper, where she worked for over 15 years. Hilda never let or allowed anyone to bring her down. Even in her last years of this life she remained active in attending family events and gatherings. Often while out at gatherings someone would come up and say, ''Hi Mama''. She would reply ''Hi baby'' and then turn to someone close and say ''Who's that, is that one of mine''? Her presence was known by her soft, but very outspoken spirit. She didn't hold anything back, good or bad. Hilda was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Spears; fove grandchildren, Dwayne, Karen, Roger, Lisa, and Mark; and one great-grandchild, Shannon Jemmison. Hilda leaves to cherish her memories to five daughters, Deborah Hurd, Delores Jenson, Denise Foster, Barbara Matthews, and Valerie Gardener; three sons, Rodney Spears, Mark Spears, and Barry Ames; two daughters-in-law, Sharon Spears and Tonya Spears; one brother Emerson Madden; one sister, Willet Dimples Wright; 29 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
