IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Howard J.
Taylor, Jr.
October 4, 1936 – January 26, 2018
HOWARD JOSEPH TAYLOR, JR.
son of the late Margaret and Howard
Joseph Taylor, Sr. was born October 4, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed his
earthly life swiftly the morning of January 26, 2018. He was blessed to have known
and bonded with our great grandmother Isabel (Mamacita) Williams and was her first
great grandson.
Howard received his education at St. Monica's Catholic School in South Baltimore and
was further educated when he decided to study and become a Cabinetmaker by trade.
He proudly displayed his handcrafted wood pieces and would often gift many of them
to family and friends.
Lil Howard was fascinated with bicycles throughout his life this was his mode of
transportation. He would travel in a heartbeat from one side of town to the other, from
the city to the county. Whenever you saw Howard his bicycle was not too far away.
He always kept an arsenal of bikes taking one part from another to fix or make a new
one. Whenever anyone needed a bike part, flat fixed or advice on how to keep a
chain from popping Howard had the answer. Watching old Westerns were also a
favorite, especially the tv shows Bonanza and Wagon Train.
Howard resided at the House of Victory Home Care, where his extended family
affectionately called him "Poppi". His daily routine which he enjoyed, included
attending A Caring Hand Medical Daycare where he met and made many friends.
Known to some and surprisingly to others, Howard took pleasure in dancing so much
so, that one day after a social event at daycare he danced all the way to the van, the
staff was so elated to see this they later presented him with a "special" award.
Howard left fond memories with cousin Bernadette, she remembers being 7 years old
wanting to go hangout with her Dad at the family's dry cleaners. At that time Lil
Howard was visiting with them and her Mom didn't drive so what did Howard do?
Well, what he knew best! He loaded her up seated her onto his bicycle's handlebars
and they road from Northeast Baltimore past the Inner Harbor to Hamburg Street.
Johnny and cousin Lesta also remember riding their bikes 23 miles with Howard and
cousin Gregory from South Baltimore to Henryton, MD visiting with Lloyd, Sr. (Peg) on
the farm and then Aunt Louisa on the way back home. Lesta, tired from their riding
adventure fell asleep on her front porch.
Howard will be remembered and survived by his four siblings, Lloyd, Jr. and Johnny
Brewington, Jacqueline Springs and spouse Sal, and Stewart Taylor; a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, friends and a very special caregiver Ms. Diane.
Howard was the patriarch of the family and was also preceded in death by his sisters,
Cecilia, Bernadine and Juanita; brother, Aaron (Birdie); and uncles and aunts whom
he grew up with.
