Obituary

Hubert Carmichael, Sr. was born on February 15, 1929 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to the late Frances (Mandy) Bullard and James Carmichael, Sr. On Wednesday October 18, 2017 he went to be with his 1st love Jesus the Christ.

He was educated in the North Carolina Public School System. Hubert joined Beautyspot Baptist Church in Purvis, North Carolina at an early age. He enjoyed spending time with his family and God. He worked as a gospel radio station announcer and professional fighter in North Carolina. He was a man of steel who worked at Bethelem Steel as a crane operator retiring after 33 years.

He was joined in marriage to Marie McCollum in 1949 and from this union, 7 children Genevie, Eleanor, Yvonne, Hubert, Paulette, Larry, and Gregory were born. His daughter Genevie and Son in law James Anthony Morris preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers James Carmichael, Jr.(Vera), Grady Carmichael, and only sister Levata Odom (Hayward); sister-in-law, Mary Mct.ollum and brohter-in-law, Solomon Neptume.

He joined the United States Army in February 1951 and recieved an honorable discharge:

He moved his family to Baltimore, Maryland in the early 1950's. He joined Pilgrim Christian Baptist Church under the leadership of founder, Pastor Lininion Wilson and was baptized. He was a faithful and active member of Pilgrim Christian Baptist Church, serving as a Trustee and original member of the Male Voices of Pilgrim under the leadership of Pastor James.Forman until his health started to fail.

He became a member of the Freemasons where he reached the rank of 3rd Degree Master Mason.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 68 years-Marie Carmichael; six children-Eleanor Mccullough (Vastine), Yvonne Morris, Hubert Carmichael, Jr. (Cynthia), Paulette Scotland (Errol), Larry Carmichael (Sykeitha), Gregory Carmichael; sister-in-law, Ellaree Neptune; a devoted cousin, Levata Snow; his best friend, grandson James Wesley; a God-daughter- Lynette James; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, neices, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
