Obituary

Huey Brown Rouse, affectionately known to his family as "Duey," was born to Ms. Howvetta Rouse and Mr. Leon Brooks on March 15, 1971. Duey was a happy, thumb sucking child with an easy smile. Early on he was educated in the Baltimore City public school system. He was fortunate to finish high school at the Glenn Mills School in Pennsylvania where he distinguished himself as a scholar and an athlete. Following high school, he was awarded a full scholarship to Clarion University where he participated in many activities, including playing on the NCAA Div. II football team. Duey also served in the United States Army. He completed his degree in drug addictions counseling at the Baltimore City Community College. He was very proud of this accomplishment. At the time of his death he worked A Step Forward, helping his clients fight drug addiction.

Duey was a master story teller - supremely creative and skilled with words. He loved to read and consider the mysteries of God and life. He often engaged in deep conversations about the foundations of the spirit, current events, and the intricacies of the human condition. Duey loved music. He was a talented lyricist, influenced by all genres of music, spoken word arts, and the black revolution movement. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, laughing, and eating. His favorite dessert was banana pudding.

Duey leaves to celebrate his life; his mother, Howvetta Rouse; son, Daryn Rouse; fiancee, La Tonia Rush; brother, Artartus Rouse (Rochelle); aunts, Ila Ham and Shirley Johnson; and uncles, Ellis Jenkins and William Johnson. In addition, there are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances that love him deeply and will always remember the special place that he held in their lives.
