Obituary

MRS. IDA MOORE was born on February 19, 1919 in Baltimore, MD to the late Mrs. Edith Wilson Bannister and raised only with her husband, the late Mr. Jesse Bannister. She was married to the late Mr. James Hayes and from that union three children were born: two daughters, Bernardine and Louise (who preceded her in death) and one son, Michael. She was later married to Mr. Charles Edward Moore, who also preceded her in death and from that union three children were born: Margaret, Charles Ernest and Kenneth. Early Wednesday morning, on June 12, 2013, God gently took her hand and led her home. "Miss Ida" received her education through the Baltimore City Public School System graduating from Frederick Douglass High School and later attended Morgan State College. She began her working career at Southern Life Insurance Company and retired after over forty years of service. "Miss Ida's" religious life was nurtured and spent in John Wesley United Methodist Church. Her church activities began at an early age. She was an active member of many ministries; such as Ida C. Norris Wesleyan Service Guild, The Women's Society of Christian Services, The Wesleyite, United Methodist Women, Adult Fellowship, and a Class Leader. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years, a member of the Heritage Choir, and served on the Finance Committee. Until her health slowly declined, she faithfully attended Noon-Day Bible Study. "Miss Ida" was the Church Treasurer for over thirty-five years. Throughout her life, Ida was a tireless worker at home, at church, and at Southern Life. There was nothing asked of her that she was not happy to do. Respected and admired by most everyone who knew her; she was looked up to by those in the neighborhood, on the job, and also fellow worshippers. A woman devoted to her family and to her mother "Nana", Ida was a rare gem indeed. Not a rich woman but "Mama", "Grandma", Mrs. Moore, or simply "Miss Ida" was abundantly wealthy in Love, Kindness, and Patience. One who would share or give whatever she had, even if it meant that she would go without. Neighbors would sometimes ring the doorbell and ask of her something that they ran out of, or simply just needed; she never hesitated to comply, she even shared her home. Mrs. Moore was an early entrepreneur. At one time she owned Ida's Hat Shop, located on Pennsylvania Ave., and later a neighborhood confectionery store. She expressed to some her vision of operating a home for senior citizens. "Miss Ida" was a Notary Public and a long-time Tax Preparer. At ninety-four years old, she still found it within her to assist a few friends in filing their taxes. Crossword puzzles, variety books, and writing were things that she thoroughly enjoyed. She wrote a play, a booklet, and even an article that she submitted to the "Upper Room Magazine". Annual outings to the beach and amusement parks organized by her job and neighborhood groups were things that she and the family enjoyed. Visits from the family in Florida and preparing baked goods for them were highlights in her life. "Miss Ida" was a long-time resident of Sandtown-Winchester and in her later years, she became very active in community affairs. She was a Board Member of Resident Action Committee (RAC), served on the Public Safety Committee of the Community Building in Partnership (CBP), and a member of Sandtown-Winchester Association. She even found time to volunteer her services to the Experience Corp, a program sponsored by Johns Hopkins that placed senior men and women into elementary schools of Baltimore City. "Miss Ida" adopted and was adopted by many. She had a step-daughter, Shirley Walker of New York. Special grandchildren, little "Risa", Courtney and Denae will surely miss her. Orisa, Belinda, Sylvia, Lynne, LaTonya and Rita were near and dear to her. She leaves to mourn in her passing and to cherish beautiful memories: a devoted grandson, Joseph D. Brown of Baltimore, MD; a son, Michael E. and daughter-in-law, Willette Wilson of Jacksonville, FL and his children, Michael C, Michael L., Rev. Jay Wilson and Kimberly M.; a daughter, Margaret and son-in-law, Bishop Willie Ferrell of Savannah, GA and their children, Timothy D., Benjamin E, Miriam E., Victor L. and Johnathan C; a son, Charles Ernest and daughter-in-law, Joyce of Baltimore, MD and their children, Yasmin and Zarah; a son, Kenneth E. Moore and his son, Kenneth C.J.; one sister, Mrs. Goldie Morsell (who preceded her in death); three special nieces, Sheryl Morsell of Baltimore, MD, Mrs. Annie Belle McKee of Baltimore, MD and Aristian B. Russell and her son, Tariq of Jacksonville, FL. She also leaves to cherish beautiful memories: thirty-four great-grandchildren including Kishia Boone of New York; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
