Obituary

Today, God has called us to witness the celebration of the life of Irene McArthur, for this, we pause to give thanks to the Almighty God for sharing her with us. Irene was born on December 5, 1933 in Amelia County, Virginia to the late Pearl and Thomas Michaux. Irene departed this life on Saturday, December 7, 2013 to journey on to glory where she will be greeted by her mother andfather, husband, James McArthur, son, Andre Myers, two sisters, Rebecca Dabney and Ann Marshall, two brothers, George Michaux and Mckinley Michaux, and her best friend, Martha Randall. Irene was educated in Amelia County where she attended Maggie Walker High School. After attending high school, Irene moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she met her first love, William Butler. They joined in Holy Matrimony in 1950. Qf the union was born a lovely baby girl, Diane Butler. In 1958, Irene married her second husband, Williams Myers and shortly after they had five lovely children. After the death of her husband, Irene raised her six children. Later thereafter she married James McArthur and they were together until his untimely departure. Irene became a member of Saint Abraham Baptist Church were she was also baptized in 1989. Irene was employed at the Rosewood Center in 1973 where she retired in 1993. Irene loved being around family and friends. She was known to assemble the fam- ily in the spare of the moment for picnics at Gun Powder State Park She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, going to restaurants and the movies. She especially loved cooking her favorite dishes, potato salad and shrimp salad for family gatherings. Irene leaves to cherish her memory; five children, Diane Phair, Calvin Butler, Ramona Edwards, Wilnet Avance and Sharon Knox; two sister-in-laws, Margie Michaux and Betty Powell; two daughters-in-law, Debra Myers and Beverly But- ler; three sons-in-law, Andre Edwards, Tyrone Knox and Gene Phair; fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, one long dearing friend, Rita May Davis and a host of friends.
