Obituary

Isiah Eady Brown Sr., was born on February 24, 1947 to the late Elizabeth and Samuel Brown, in Baltimore, Maryland. As a young child, Isiah, also known as Ikey attended his family church, The Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin and was a lifelong member until his untimely departure. Isiah grew up in Baltimore and received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System graduating from Frederick Douglas Senior High School in 1965. He was proud to be a "Duck"! After graduating from high school Isiah was drafted into the military where he served in the United States Army. He shared many stories about being in the military, including his worldly travels, meeting new people, learning different cultures and belonging to a singing group. He loved sharing the array of languages he learned to speak along his journey, including French, Spanish and German. Before discharging from the Army, Isiah had received a Good Conduct Medal and a National Defense Service Medal. After being discharged from the Army, in August 1971, Isiah was United in Holy Matrimony to the former Marsha Brooks. From this union, three children were born that he loved unconditionally. Ikey was passionate about music and loved listening to bands. His favorite group was Earth Wind and Fire. He would hear a song from "EWF" and jump up from his seat dancing and acting as if he was one of the band members while playing on the keyboard or guitar. Ikey enjoyed cooking and grilling but loved to eat "Especially Seafood and Chocolate". He was an avid chess player who would spend his spare time at City Hall playing chess with any willing and able body. He enjoyed watching sports and taking his grandchildren to see the Orioles and Ravens play. He was a great bowler and had received several trophies while bowling with The Professional Bowling League. He loved playing cards. He taught many family and friends to play spades and pinochle. He and his wife Marsha would attend card playing tournaments and hold card parties which would last until the next day in their home. Ikey loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Isiah was employed with various companies throughout Baltimore after being discharged from the Army. He worked at Sparrows Point Steel Mill operating the Coke Ovens, Coppin State College in the custodial department, Martin Angelette Salad Dressing Company where he made dressings and sauces that he proudly shared with his family, friends and neighbors. And last but not least, The Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin Church where he served as Sexton for many years until his illness. Isiah leaves to mourn: two sons, Isiah Brown Jr. and Wade Brown (Zina); one daughter, Malinda Burroughs (Herbert); one sister, Deborah Newman; eight grandchildren, Kelby, Kolby, Tyana, who proceeded him in death, Gregory, Tierra, Monet, Marcus and Rachel; seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends, acquaintances and his loving church mother, Ms. Lillian Williams.
