James Ernest Bagwell, affectionately known as ''Jimmy,'' was born on August 17, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York to the late James and Leila Bagwell. He was the second of the three children. He received his education through the New York City Public School System. In 1967, Jimmy began his country by joining the United States Air Force where he served as a sergeant on the 862nd Security Police Squad at Minot AFB, North Dakota. He received an honorable deischarge May 1971. Jimmy was employed for twenty six years as a Respiratory Therapist at Lutheran Hospital and Liberty Medical Center. He also worked at the Woodstock Job Corps and NCIA/Youth-In-Transition Center as a counselor. Additionally, he worked part-time at the Fred B. Leidig Recreation Center where he served as a coach to the youth. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a member of Evergreen A.M.E. Church. He lived a life of faith, courage and commitment to God and his church family. Jimmy served as a steward and was dedicated to many activities within the church. Although Jimmy was a quiet, gentle and humble person, his presence was that of a ''Giant''. He had a love for people. His favorite hobbies included playing basketball, bowling and welcoming anyone to a game of spades. His special gift was helping and guiding youth - as Jimmy always Had a ''passion'' for children. Jimmy spent many days coaching, transporting and mentoring children in the surrounding communities. After a beautiful and meaningful courtship, Jimmy and Janice were united in holy matrimorny on August 7, 1977. They always remained proud and dedicated parents to their children. Peacefully, he went to rest in the arms of his Lord and Savior on the morning of Thursday, May 24, 2007. He leaves to cherish is memory; a loving and devoted wife, Janice Bagwell; loving children, Vernon, Tashia, Raven and Leila; six precious grandchildren, Brandon, Milan, Ryann, Mitchell, Malik and Ayaliah; goddaughter, Ericka McCray; godson, Barry Murphy, brother, Vernon L. Savage Lois, Baltimore, Md., sister, Harriet Ella Skinner, Hampton, Va.; four aunts, Monzella Bundy Leroy, Accomac, Va. Dorothy Allen, Baltimore,Md., Delores Bagwell, Philadelphia Pa. and Mamie Mitchell, NY; nine sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including a devoted cousin, Ronnie Savage and two special friends, Norman ''Squeaky'' Woingust and Kenny Martin. This wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend will be greatly missed by the hundreds of people who had the privilege of knowing him throughout his sixty years of life on earth.
