James Sidney Bowman Jr., affectionaly known as ''Jimmy,'' departed this life on Friday, July 7, 2006 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was born to the late James Sidney, Sr. and Cornelia D. Bowman in Lynchburg, Virginia on May 23, 1917. At an early age, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior, was baptized and received into the membership of White Rock Baptist Church in Lynchburg. Jimmy was a graduate of Lynchburg''s Dunbar High School. He joined the United States Army prior to World War II and served for seven years. After his military discharge, he made his home in Washington, D.C. where he entered Government Service with the U.S. Department of Commerce. Later,he transferred to the U.S. Postal Service and retired from there, after 31 years of service. He was married to Blanche W. Bowman who preceded him in death. All of his siblings, Eugene and Standford Bowman, Jessie Bowman, Waton and Hariett Bowman, Clayton as well as his nephew, Douglas Bowman and niece, Cornelia Bowman Mckinley also peceded him in death. Jimmy has been a member of Contee for a number of years and volunteered his services for the church projects and day care center. On June 17, 1990, he was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding and dedicated service to the church. In addition, Jimmy was well known in his neighborhood for assisting the neighbors. He continued to do so until he remarried and moved to Baltimore.He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted and loving wife, Sarah; daughters, Beverly Bowman Harrison and Barbara Williams; son-in-law, Russell Williams; step-daughters Jean Flaggs, Sharon McNeill and Debbie Mitchell; stepsons Percy Green; grandchildren, Gary Williams, Amani, Lewis Bryant and Kent Harrison, grat-grandchildren,Ceana Williams, Paris Harrison, Christopher and Courtney Williams; nieces, nephews,cousins and other relatives.
