IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James E.
Heggie, Sr.
February 22, 1934 – August 16, 2017
James Edward Heggie, Sr.,
son of the late Hubert and Louise Heggie, was
born on February 22, 1934 in Oxford, North Carolina. He departed this life
on August 16, 2017 after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his
loving wife, Mary Louise Heggie.
He received his education in the North Carolina Public School System. As
a young man, he moved to Baltimore, Maryland and began working at
Johns Hopkins Hospital. Later, he worked as the head chef at
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)
formerly Friendship International Airport for many years. He attended and
graduated from Le'Cole School of Arts, now known as Le Cordon Bleu
Culinary Institute. In 1983, he began working as the head chef at Masters
Mates & Pilots Plans and was a loyal employee until he retired in May 2004.
In June 2005, James accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at the Koinonia
Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dante K. Miles and Bishop
Douglas I. Miles. James was a shining example that you do not have to be
out in the front to serve God and his church. He used his gift of cooking to
serve his church. James along with friend and coworker Al Brown helped
to prepare many meals for the church. A special joy came with helping
Deacon Sylvia Cooper Carter and the House of Tabitha whenever called
upon.
James was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend. James truly
lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; cooking, attending church
and spending time with his family. What made him the happiest was
watching his family get together, enjoying love and laughter with one
another. He had an uncanny ability to touch people in a positive way, but
didn't hold back when it came to speaking his mind. He made numerous
friends wherever he went and will be sorely missed by everyone that knew
him.
He is survived by two brothers, David Higgins & William Heggie; his
children, Roberta Mills (Joseph), Joyce Heggie, James Heggie, Jr. (pame-
la), Vernon Heggie, Aaliyah Bi1al (Golden), Patricia Mitchell (Kevin),
Michael Heggie, Paula Heggie, Steven Heggie Sr., Dana Mark (Kevin),
Darren Magwood (Monique) & Brion Heggie, 35 grandkids, 39 great
grandkids with 2 due this fall, 1 great great grandkid, and a host of nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by two children,
She1ia Campbell and Warren Heggie.
