James Porter McArthur, son of the late Henry Dalton and Lula McNeil McArthur, was born on February 18, 1931, in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on March 20, 2015 after a lengthy illness. James was educated in the Baltimore City Public Schools System and graduated from Carver Vocational High School. He received Christ at an early age and was a member of Southern Baptist Church for many years in which his mother and father were among the founders. In 1944 he met his childhood sweetheart and then later married the love of his life, Jean Inez Howe on October 29, 1949. James was a fun-loving person with many friends and everyone liked him. He enjoyed playing cards, going to horse races, dancing and traveling. In later years, he and his wife with their friends as a group traveled to many places. James had many occupations in his life and enjoyed every one of them from Bethlehem Steel and ending at Coppin State College where he retired. James was a trail blazer in many areas. He was one of the first Black drivers employed by Pepsi Cola, Corp. and owned his own restau- rant, The Arundel King Fish Carry-Out. Preceding him in death, are two sons, James Allen, Philip Warren; one grandson Kevin Lee; two sisters, Eather Mae, and Annie Lou; and one brother, Sandy. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 65 years, Jean; two sons, Kevin Gene and Terry Byron; one aunt, Marzella Steele; one brother, Jerome; four grandchildren, Keith, Patrice, Bridgett, and Brianna; two great-granddaughters, Elaine, and Keyvonne; one sister-in-law, Thelma and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
