JAMES MERRELL POWELL, JR., beloved son of the late Florence Augusta Rogers and the late James Merrell Powell, Sr., was born on December 15, 1939 in Baltimore Maryland. He was affectionately known to his family and friends as "Chicken". Diagnosed with cancer several years ago, he lost the battle and departed this life at Northwest Hospital, Seasons Hospice Care Unit on Sunday, December 11, 2011. He received his education in the Public School System of Baltimore, Marylad. He was employed by The Maryland News Company, A&P Bakery and retired from the Coty of Baltimore's Sanitation Department. He was a veteran of the United States Army, who served during the Vietnam War. He was a very loving, cheerful and caring person. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: two sisters, Monica Anne Pinkett and Priscilla Elizabeth McCraw; two sons, James Tyrone Powell and Darius Justin-Zoe Powell; four grandchildren, Nicole Powell, Laverne Powell, Shawn Powell and Tyrone Powell. He is also survived by an aunt, Irma Jackson; a special friend, Karen Darlene Lipscomb; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. A daughter, Nicole Powell preceded him in death.
