Sgt. James Russell Sparks, Sr., beloved son of the late John Sparks and Irene O. Sparks, was born on March 23, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland. God in his infinite wisdom, called him suddenly home to rest on Monday 23, 2012. At an early age, James was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He received his formal education in the Baltimore City Public School System, and graduated from Frederick Douglas High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. After his service, he returned to Baltimore where he was joined in holy matrimony to the former Ms. Ella Dempsey. This union was blessed with two daughters, Linda and Karen. In August of 1964, he joined the Baltimore City Police Department where he met an later married the former Ms. Emma Douglas. This union was blessed with one son, James. While on the Police force, James sought career advancement and decided to return to school. He enrolled in the University of Baltimore form he earned a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. James remained a dedicated employee of the Baltimore City Police Department for thirty-four years. After his retirement he became employed as a greeter for Municipal Credit Union MECU. He also returned to the Police Department where he performed various duties as a retiree. Affectionately called "Saul" by his family and close friends, James loved life and lived each day to the fullest. He always greeted you with hi warm and cheerful smile. He was blessed with outrageous sense of humor and his own sense of style. James enjoyed spending quality time at family gatherings. James was preceded in death by two brothers, John Sparks and Theodore "Mouse" Sparks. He touched the hearts and souls of all who came in contact with him. He will sorely be missed, but his memory will remain in our hearts forever. James leaves to cherish his memory; his loving and devoted friend, Marie dingle; two daughters, Linda Sparks and Karen Sparks Johnson Walter; one son James Sparks Jr.; one brother Arnold Sparks Jackie; five grandchildren, Shanell, Reggie Jr., Ebonie, Christopher and James III; three great-grandchildren; Kayla, Aniyah and LeZariah; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear frieneds.
