MINISTER JAMES E. SCOTT, SR. was born (the third of eight children) to the late Louis and Bernice Scott on February 4, 1940 in Emporia, Va. He graduated from Wyatt's High School. He was the owner of Percy Grocery located on Patterson Park and Biddle Street for a number of years. After working 20-plus years at Broadway Services he then retired. He also had a transportation service until he became terminally ill. GOD blessed James to have a wife, Debra Scott and five children, James and Valeria Scott, Antonio Scott, Rodney Scott and Latia Allen; and from the children came forth five grandchildren, Derrick, Brittany, Keon, Briona and Zyatia and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Dallas. He leaves to mourn: Melvin and Eunice Scott, Vernon and Hortense Scott, John and Jewel Scott, William and Deborah Scott, Randolph Scott, Ralph and Lilia Scott and sister-in-law, Dorothy Scott to the late Lewis Scott, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. James was a very giving person his whole life. Upon his Baptism and throughout his life he was a man of God. He served as a Sunday School Teacher and a Minister at Memorial Institutional Church of God. His favorite quote was 170 Be Absent in the Body Was to Be Present with the Lord II. James was a fantastic bowler, he won numerous trophies. He loved to fish and travel. James had a passion for writing, singing and playing gospel music. James was a very devoted family man.
