Mr. James Edward Young, Jr. was born to the late Blanche L. Jackson and James E. Young, Sr. on April 29, 1945 in Baltimore City. "Ooono", as he was affectionately called by his friends, departed this life in his new home on February 7, 2015. James was raised by his grandmother, Estelle Branch, whom he loved dearly until her death. James had two aunts who were instrumental in his life: Marie Rose (Rosie) and Edythe Green (Sis Edythe) and her husband Arthur Green (Uncle Arthur) who he loved talking and sharing stories. James was a student at Carver High School in Baltimore City until he decided to enter the Air Force. James received his GED while still in the service. After being honorably discharged, James lived and worked in California as a gas and electric linesman. After spending several years in California, James returned home to Baltimore. Upon the suggestion of a friend, Lawrence Frazer, James applied to and was accepted into the Calhoun MEBA Engineering School for Marine Engineering. After studying and passing his entry exam, James was 1 of 2 blacks who was accepted into this program that was reserved primarily for whites. James traveled the world and always talked about the different places he had visited. Always striving to achieve more, James studied and earned several licenses, the highest being Chief Engineer. James enjoyed swimming, ping pong, basketball and playing tennis as well as watching sports on television. After retirement, James relocated to Riverview, Florida where he lived for 14 Years. When his health began to fail, James moved back to Baltimore to be close to family and friends. James leaves behind to cherish his memories, his beloved daughter, Janelle N. Young, whom he called Nikki. He was very proud of his daughter and talked about her achievements to all that knew him. He also leaves behind his sister Edythe Riddick, two half- brothers Wayman Young and James Eugene Young, a niece Madonna Green Parker (Timothy Parker), and friends Glenn Hawkins, John Day, and Robert Long, as well as other relatives and friends.
