Jamil Emanuel Owens, son of Joyce Owens and Yousef Minning-
field, was born on June 20, 1976 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed
this life on March 8, 2017.

Mel-Poo or Face, as he was lovingly called by friends and family,
attended Baltimore City Public Schools and later enrolled at ITT Tech
where he studied to become a building maintenance engineer. He spent
a great deal of his career working with his brother doing home improve-
ment and roofing.

Mel-Poo was proud and joyful to become a father for the first time in
1997 and then again for the second time a few years later.

Mel-Poo was a dreamer, as his mother would say. He saw more than
what was in front of him and he didn't let the impossible limit his
actions. Jamil was known to take the side roads, the more adventurous
paths, because to him, it was more about the journey, not the destina-
tion. Along the journey, Mel-Poo developed a passion for music. He
LOVED music. He was obsessive about music even recording, produc-
ing and writing several of his own rap songs.

Jamil was always quick to smile and greet you with a warm hug. He
was an incredible person with an infectious laugh and beautiful person-
ality. He loved people and made friends that became his family includ-
ing his best friend of 25 years, Robert Hill. Jamil was a blessing
wherever he went and always had a host of people that he encouraged
and assisted on a daily basis.

Jamil was preceded in death by his son, Shy'Heim Owens, and his
sister, Lynell Owens.

Jamil is survived by: his son, Jamil Owens Jr; mother, Joyce Owens;
father, Yousef Minningfield; sisters, Donyell Owens, Nickell (Fred)
Crawford, and Monica (David) Johnson; brothers, Kevin Owens (wife),
Robert Owens, Andre (Leslie) Owens, Derrick Owens and Daryl Ow-
ens. Jamilleaves 27 nieces and nephews and a host of great nieces and
nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
