Jean Mitchell Jones peacefully departed this world on June 6, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on June 18, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland, Jean was the cherished daughter of the late Arvilla and Herman Mitchell and the beloved sister of Herman Mitchell Jr., the late Raymond Mitchell, and the late Rebecca Tarpley. Jean’s life was a testament to resilience, strength, and love. She navigated life’s challenges with grace and a heart full of compassion. She was the devoted wife of the late Donald Jones and a nurturing mother to the late Rodney Ballentine (Adrienne Turner), Jeanette Mitchell, Rebecca Hudson, Oliver Powell, the late William Mitchell, and, as she lovingly said, her “daughter from another mother,” Salena Jeffries.

Though preceded in death by many loved ones, Jean’s spirit and the love she shared remain ever-present in the hearts of those she touched. She leaves to cherish her memory her grandchildren: David (Dae’Sha & Ameerah), Dajuan (Aniyah & Arden), Jalisha (Ka’Miya & Harmony), Windell (Shylia, Kyndell & Xyaire), Keon (KJ, Santana, Shalloh & Zuri), Jarell “Zack” (Amir, Ahmon, Layla & Liam), Breon (Bryson & Skylar), Trenise (Amiyah & Tori), Rodney Jr., Daysha (Amari), and Justine (Makayla & Noah).

She also leaves behind her bonus grandchildren of the Jeffries family: Venia, Breyia, Xavier, Rheyanna, Makayla, Messiah, Aliyah, Niyah, Jacob, and Christian; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cxtended family; two goddaughters, Virginia and Tamara; one godson, Bebop; and four special friends, Roslyn, Debbie, Uncle Show, and Uncle Michael.

Jean began her educational journey in the Baltimore City Public School system, where she laid the foundation for a life dedicated to family, service, and community. Her entrepreneurial spirit shined brightly when she earned her cosmetology license and opened her own beauty salon, Jean Den of Styles. More than just a business, it was a place where she empowered others to embrace their beauty, confidence, and self-worth.

 After retiring from her successful salon, Jean found great joy and purpose in caring for children. Her home became a haven filled with laughter, guidance, and Jove as she babysat and nurtured countless children throughout the community. any, she was simply known as “Ganny,” and every child she cared for became is of “Ganny’s Kids.”

 Jean’s legacy of love, generosity, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to family will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched. She was truly one of a kind, unforgettable, and deeply loved. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her spirit will forever remain in our hearts, our memories, and the stories we share. 


Jean's life will be celebrated with a service on June 25, 2026. As we gather to honor her memory, we remember her not just for her accomplishments, but for the warmth she brought into our lives and the legacy of love she leaves behind. 

Jean Mitchell Jones will forever be remembered for her  unwavering dedication to her family, her entrepreneurial spirit,  and her boundless compassion. As we say goodbye, we find solace in the knowledge that her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest in peace, dear Aunt Jean, knowing you were deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
