Lucinda Jeanne Joseph, was born in Trinidad, West Indies on February 4, 1912. She was the last of five children born to Fredrick and Lateisha. She had three brothers, Chester, Colbert and Heckque and one sister, Mildred. Lucy, as she was affectionately called was the last living member of the Fredrick and Lateisha Dynasty. "Ma" as she was called by everyone was very modest, gentle, quiet and soft spoken person. Many a time when talking with her you would have to listen carefully, or get close to her to not miss what she was saying. She was not one to complain no matter how rough it got, and we know it got very rough at times. She spent much of her life working in the garden and selling the produce in the market and that's not an easy job. Ma enjoyed dancing. Around Christmas and carnival time she would attend dances in Bourg Village and took her son, Franklin, who was in his early teens, along with her to be her companion on the walk back home after the dance. The dance started from 8pm to 4am and they danced to the music of Briley & Brito. The popular dance then was Castilian. She also enjoyed carnival even though she never actually played in any band. She would take her two sons, Franklin and Dennis to see the carnival band in San Juan and they would wait there until the band from her village came up from the city where they were taking part in the carnival competition. After the band reassembled they would start the mile journey playing music all the way home and she would join in the band holding her boys tightly in each hand until they got home. After her children migrated to America, Ma would visit and spend vacation time with them before returning back to Trinidad. In her senior years, she finally moved to America to be closer to her family and was cared for by her daughter, Margaret in Maryland where she lived until October 28, 2013. Lucinda leaves behind to celebrate her long life: eight children, Frankie, Stephanie, Margaret, Fanty, Franklin, Dennis, Jennifer and Virginia; sons-in-law, Richard, Desmond and Dennis; daughters-in-law, Doris and Joanne; eighteen grandchildren, forty-three great grandchildren, twenty seven great great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. We thank God for Ma and for all the many lives she has touched in her own special way and we know that she is resting peacefully in our loving Savior's arms. We love you Lucy. You're gone but will never be forgotten. Viewing Joseph H. Brown Jr. Funeral Home
