Obituary

JEFFERSON VINCENT HANDY, JR 61, peacefully departed this life on Monday, April 22, 2013, Maryland General Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was born January 30,1952 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Jefferson Vincent Handy, Sr., and Eloise Stewart. Vincent was educated in the public school systems of Baltimore, Maryland. He was employed by Bethlehem Steele, W. F. Wilson & Sons, and Murray's Steak House for a number of years. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Canaan Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Willie Green, Sr. He met and married his childhood sweetheart, Jo Linda Edwards and from this union four children were born. Vincent was a happy, free-spirited person who enjoyed his family and friends. He loved to be the center of attention and always had something funny to say. He will be surely be missed by those who knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish fond memories: two sons, Averil and Galen Handy, Sr.; two daughters, Melissa Brown and Crystal Handy; one daughter-in-law, Nicole; four grandchildren, Amanda, Erika, Galen, Jr., and Taylor; seven brothers, Raymond, Thurston, Andre, Kenneth, and Kevin; Keith and Bruce Stewart preceded him in death; three sisters, Francis Carr, and Nadine Handy; Benita Stewart preceded him in death; one uncle, Thomas Jones, Sr.; a former wife Jo Linda Handy and a special friend Cherise Garrett; a host of nieces and nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends. I'm Free Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free. I'm following the path God has laid you see. I took his hand when I heard him call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day. To laugh to love to work to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found that peace at the end of the day. If my parting has left a void. Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared a laugh a kiss. Oh yes these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full I savored much. Good friends good times a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief. Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Left up your hearts and peace to thee. God wanted me now; He set me free.
