Joan
Carolyn (Carney) Lawrence, the beloved daughter of the late
Lillie V. Mills and John B. Carney, was born on December 18, 1946
in Tarboro, North Carolina. On the wings of the angels, the Lord called
her home to eternal resting on August 18,2018.
Joan
officially known as "Carolyn" was the second child of three children.
She thoroughly enjoyed growing up with her siblings Mildred, Conferlete,
close cousin William(Billy Boy) and the Carney's. She felt great passion in
being around her family. As an adolescent,
Joan
was baptized.
Joan
also
received her education in Tarboro, North Carolina public school system.
In 1967, Joan was united in holy matrimony to William E. Lawrence and
from this union she was blessed with four beautiful children Sherry, Steve,
Angelisa, and Felicia. During her early years,
Joan
was employed at Noxell
cover girl until her retirement in 2002.
Joan
was a kind, loving, and generous soul with a caring personality.
She made friends wherever she went and expressed love and affection
to everyone. Her home was her special place where friends and family
would gather for cooking and enjoyment. The holidays were her favorite,
especially Thanksgiving. During Thanksgiving and Christmas, she made it
a family tradition to spend time baking cakes and pies.
Joan
loved traveling
to New York City and Virginia to spend time with her sister Pat and brother
in law Melvin. She also enjoyed traveling to DC to spend time with her
brother Romie and two sisters Gloria(Genie) and Dorethea (Fruity). She
often visited her home town to spend time with her cousins Brenda Sue
(Ray), Diane(Lester) and the Carney's. She even made sure to stop by to
see Mrs. Sarah Lawrence.
Joan
always made sure to purchase her meats, greens, and mints when
visiting home. She was also apart of her high school alumni in which she
would attend a traditional event held every year around Fourth of July
weekend.
In 2015,
Joan
suffered a major stroke. The doctors thought she wouldn't
survive but God allowed her to live for three more years. During that time
she resided in long term care. She found great joy in having visits from
her family, watching movies, and listening to a couple of her favorite singers
such as Yolanda Adams and Kim.
Joan
was preceded in death by her daughter Angelisa, her parents Lillie
and John, and her brother Anthony. Joan leaves to cherish her memories;
three children; Sherry, Steve, and Felicia (Cordell), three sisters; Mildred
(Melvin), Gloria, Dorethea, two brothers; Conferlete and Romie(Karla),
ten grandchildren; Briniti, Cierra, Darrius, Andre', Brian Jr., Danesha,
Joshua, Brianca, Nyah, and Cameron, four great grandchildren, and her
God daughter Elana. A Host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Family and
Friends. Noxell Family, Mrs. Sonia, Mrs. Carolyn and Michael Gray.
