John Lee Benson was born Febuary 25, 1936 to the late Annie Jean and John Benson of Evergreen, Alabama. John was the eldest of five children. John spent his later childhood years in detroit, Michigan where he was educated through the Detroit public school system. In the early 1950's, John dedicated his life to Christ under the leadership of Bishop S.N. Hancock. In the early 1960's, John moved to New York, where he later met and married Maggie Nesmith. Thru this union two children were born; Johnny Benson and the late Bernadette Benson. John later moved to Blatimore where he was blessed with two additional children; Jason Benson and Karen English. John was a skilled mechanic and enjoyed repairing and driving numerous types of cars. He also worked as a commerical truck driver and enjoyed fishing in his free time. He leaves to celebrate his life; His devoted soul mate of 26 years; Carvella Tomlin, two sons Johnny and Jason, one daughter, Karen, two sisters Georgia and Atlena, one-son-in-law, Levi english, one daughter-in-law Kim Benson, three brothers-in-law; Ezell, Willie and William, grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, many dear friends and his extended family; Penny and the Lee family.
