IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Davis,
Jr.
September 17, 1950 – March 3, 2019
John Davis Jr,. was born on September 17, 1950 to Odessa
and the late John Davis Sr. of Baltimore, Maryland. He was proudly
named John Davis,Jr by his father, but known to all of his family and
friends as "Johnnie". He departed this life on Sunday, March 3,2019
at the University of Maryland Medical Center after courageously
battling a lengthy illness.
John was born and raised in Baltimore in a loving home with his
parents and five siblings (four preceding him in death). His parents
later moved to the west side of Baltimore where they have resided
for the past 50 years. John and his siblings were very close and
protective of their baby sister, Keysha. They were taught to always
take care of one another. The family grew up in a close-knit
community where long-time neighbors were more like family. The
neighborly greetings and chats between John and whoever crossed
the street, sat on the porch or peeped out the window always put a
smile on his face.
John matriculated through the Baltimore City Public School System,
graduating from Dunbar Senior High School. Thereafter, he served a:
a Sergeant in the United States Air Force. His fondest memory
of serving was being stationed in Hawaii for three years.
After returning home from the Air Force, John found love and
married the late Mary White. From this union, the couple had two
children, Gwendolyn and Antonio.
In John's earlier career, he was employed atArmco Steel as a
steelworker at the East Baltimore Plant until the company relocated
outside of Maryland. In later years, he was employed at the Frederick
Villa Nursing Center in Catonsville, Maryland for 10 years until his
retirement in August 2014. John spent the rest of his days enjoying
quality time with his beloved mother. They were two peas in a pod.
Whether it was running errands, enjoying her home cooked meals,
watching evening game shows or having heart-to-heart conversation:
about the goodness of the Lord, they did it together. He majorly
enjoyed watching football games with his son Antonio and having
sports talks with his grandsons and brother-in-law Corey. John and
his daughter, whom he affectionately called "Gwennie Pooh",
had an unbreakable bond. They would always say to each other
"are you alright!" or "need anything?" That's just how they were.
John was a man of few words, but he was quite frank and firm
when he needed to be. He didn't see the need in making a big
fuss over small things. He was a loving, content and very humble
man who loved his family.
John gave his life to Christ at an early age and more recently
rededicated his life to Jesus Christ, proclaiming Him as Lord
and Savior. He was preceded in death by four of his siblings:
Gwendola Elizabeth Davis, William Arthur Eggleston, Glen
Linwood Davis and Derrick Jeron Davis. John will truly be
missed by all who knew him.
John leaves to cherish his memory: (beloved Mother) Odessa
Elizabeth Davis; (daughter) Gwendolyn Patrease Levi (Eric, son-
in-law); (Son) Antonio Tavon Davis; (Sister) Shanay O'Keysha
Stokes (Corey, son-in-law); Grandchildren: Chantley Levi; Kalia
Davis; Zachary Levi; Kylee Davis; Nicholas Levi and Kamaya Davis;
William D.Westry (childhood friend); loving aunts and uncles;
a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members
and friends.
